NAIL ART HOW TO: BUTTERFLY WINGS

To celebrate the launch of the stunning Smoke & Mirrors collection, we’ve created a beautiful butterfly nail art design using some of the new shades.

Here are the steps to create the look yourself!

Step 1 – Prepare nails for Bio Sculpture Gel application and apply Vitamin Dose to nourish and hydrate the nail. Apply two thin base layers of Bio Sculpture Clear Gel and cure. Refine with a Bio Sculpture Multi File grey sponge to remove any shine from the nail.

Step 2 – Using a Bio Sculpture Upper Arch Brush, carefully draw a rough outline of your butterfly using #2017 Liquorice and cure.

Step 3 – Apply one layer of #168 Gilded Reflection to colour the inside of your butterfly and cure.

Step 4 – Create a gradation effect with #167 Seductive Lights, by lightly brushing along the edge of the butterfly wing, gradually building up the colour and then cure. Be sure to keep inside the butterfly wing outline.

Step 5 – Using a Bio Sculpture Art Brush, carefully draw a thicker final wing outline and any other black detail required using #2017 Liquorice and cure.

Step 6 – Using a Bio Sculpture dotting tool or Nail Art Brush, create dots along the black outline with #1 French White and cure.

Step 7 – Build an upper arch to ensure a smooth finish, using the correct treatment gel suited to the client’s nail type. Cure for 30 seconds.

Step 8 – Refine the nail with a Bio Sculpture Multi file sponge patch or Orange sponge file to create a smooth finish. Then apply with Bio Sculpture Gloss Gel (UV Top Coat) and cure for 30 seconds.

HOW TO: MIX & MATCH MANI

After winning the Bio Sculpture So Nailicious Novice Instagram Competition, we invited Christine David from Serenity Nail Spa to show us how to create a dazzling look using Bio Sculpture Gel products and nail art accessories.

Christine explains: The first look I’ve created is a ‘mix & match’ mani which uses two contrasting colours, finished with some gold studs to give it some edge. I’ve also incorporated the concept of the ‘outline manicure’ using the darker nail polish colour, which is one of the hottest new nail art tends.

This bold look is the perfect fashion accessory and can be customised to suit your style. You can also tone this down using just one feature nail and/or adjust the amount of bling to create your own unique set of nails.

Bio Sculpture Products Used

Executive Base
Turquoise Teacup # 120
Licorice # 2017
High Gloss Top Coat
Striping Tape
Studs – Gold Bars (middle finger), 3x3mm Black Squares, Small Round Gold Studs
Nail Art Brush

Steps

1. Paint base coat, and when dry paint base colour. I used two coats of #120 on each nail.

2. When dry, apply striping tape on tips of fingers and ensure it is pressed down firmly, so no colour bleeding occurs. Apply #2017 to the nail free edge.

3. Using the Nail Art Brush and #2017 paint a frame around the base and up the sides of the nail plate, to the striping tape – this gives a stunning frame to the nail.

4. With a small dot of wet nail polish or gel, use a dotting tool, skewer or similar to place each stud on the nail.

5. Secure the studs and seal the nail polish or gel with High Gloss Top Coat, which will also give your mani an amazing shiny finish.

HOW-TO: REVERSE MOON FRENCH MANICURE

This look is bang on trend for 2013- a combination of the reverse moon manicure and contrasting French manicure. With this flattering combination of two of the biggest colours of the year in grey and deep metallic navy, you have a nail look that is sure to turn heads.

Here is a Nail Art How-To, so you can recreate this look in the salon or at home;

Step 1: Using Bio Sculpture Gel or Nail Polish in Soaring Dove #98 apply two base coats.

Step 2: Working with Bio Sculpture Gel or Nail Polish in Cast Iron #2035, take a Bio Sculpture Striping Brush and create the reverse moon shape, working with the natural shape of the lunula of the nail.

Step 3: Using the Bio Sculpture Gel square brush (#4 or #6) or a Nail Polish brush, apply straight lines along the edge of the nail to create the French manicure line, again with Cast Iron #2035.

Step 4: Finish with Bio Sculpture Sealer Gel to embed a blue diamante to the crescent of each nail, or apply a high gloss Top Coat if trying this technique at home.

There you have it- a sleek metallic look perfect for a night out. But, the options for this look are endless- try different colour combinations and experiment with studs, jewels and glitters to create a truly unique look. Find more nail art inspiration here.
