GUEST BLOGGER: So Nailicious – Rock and Crystal How To

If you are anything like us, you are obsessed with So Nailicious. Creator Maria has a knack for creating the most incredible nail art and transforming humble polish into artwork for the hands. So endless is her inspiration for nails, she created the So Nailicious 30 Easy Nail Art Designs e-book which is available to purchase here.

We are thrilled that Maria is such a huge fan of Bio Sculpture polishes, especially the Rock and Crystal collection which she used in the below How To for her beautiful Art Noveau look. We can’t wait to see what she will create next! Make sure to go check her out at www.sonailicious.com.au.

Meet Maria from So Nailicious:

So Nailicious is a one stop destination to help you to make your nails look fabulous! Nail art, how to’s, nail polish reviews, nail and hand care product recommendations as well as expert tips and the latest nail trends.

Maria explains:

The popularity of nail art is growing right now. The main reason is that people are now looking for ways to make themselves happy without spending much. And, nail art is something that makes you happy while you’re doing it and even more satisfying once it’s finished. Not to mention all the compliments you can get on your creative manicure!

Mix’n’match manicures are big at the moment. The brighter the colours, the bolder the patterns – the better. Just like fashion at the moment, it’s all about freedom of expressing yourself. Studs, stripes, florals and crystals in any colour.

The Art Noveau look here includes two contrasting colours, two different techniques and different patterns on each nail, which makes it a perfect example of a mix’n’match manicure. You can re-create this look in much brighter shades (for instance, black & neon) and it would still look good! Enjoy!

Here at So Nailicious, we are big fans of Bio Sculpture. It’s rare to find a brand that ticks all the boxes – great formula, great brush, beautiful color palette and easy to work with. It’s particularly good for striping tape nail art because it dries fast and covers your nails evenly resulting in a perfectly smooth surface. Part of the the secret of these polishes perfect formula must be that they are created by nail professionals for nail professionals.

HOW TO:

  1. Paint 3 coats of Totally Topaz #140 on all nails and let it dry.
  2. Using striping tape create the pattern on each nail and paint over with Amethyst Moonstone #139. Remove striping tape.
  3. Apply studs and seal your nail art with a generous layer or three of top coat.

BIO SCULPTURE GEL AT THE LOGIES

The Bio Sculpture Gel team were given special behind the scenes access on Friday to set up a personal nail salon to prep nails for the beautiful ladies of Home and Away for TV’s night of nights – The Logies. The beauty of Bio Sculpture Gel meant that the Home and Away cast could get their nails done a few days prior to The Logies feeling confident that their nails would still be perfect for the red carpet days later, without any chips or scratches.

Nudes were the order of the day, but each chose a slightly different shade.

Ada Nicodemou, who plays ‘Leah’, chose Baby Doll for hands and feet- a soft baby pink to perfectly offset her nude peach and white dress.

Lynne McGranger, who plays the beloved ‘Irene’, selected Ashes of Roses for her toes and Dawn for her fingers- both of which subtly picked up the purple of her dress.

The latest cast member Bonnie Sveen, ‘Ricky’, selected Honey Beige on fingers, and as a manicure novice was amazed at the gel finish.

Gorgeous Emily Symons, ‘Marilyn’, chose a custom blend of Rose and White to create a super soft and subtle pink all of her own.

The lovely Lisa Gormley, ‘Bianca’, decided on Salmon Beige, her favourite Bio Sculpture colour, to offset her incredible red gown.

Newcomer, Kassandra Clementi, ‘Maddy’, went for a super sheer single coat of Ivory Beige for uber natural shine.

Take a look at some of the ladies on the red carpet- who is your favourite?

PARIS FASHION WEEK- TOP 4 NAIL LOOKS

Paris Fashion Week is winding down and the last week has seen a parade of some of the most luxurious Autumn/Winter fashion from all the big names- is there anywhere more romantic than Paris?  Sit back with a chocolate chaud and Ladurée macaron and take note of some of the hottest nails trends, direct from the source.

Sonia Rykiel featured classic red, with a subtle berry hint to reflect the colder season. The face was kept quite bare and the hair very simple, making sure the nails held centre stage. Which colour to use? #63 Moulin Rouge of course!

Tsumori Chisato was inspired by Asian influences for this show, with models featured classic winged liner and bold red lips. Metallic nails complete the look, the perfect match from the new Rock + Crystal Collection- #138 Melting Mercury in particular.

The Kenzo show featured plenty of colour with bright blues as the hit of the show. This was contrasted perfectly with a deep, dark nail with subtle navy tones. Recreate by layering or mixing #2017 Licorice with #127 Victoria Falls.

Roland Mouret featured stunning geometric nail art with a V-shaped French Manicure with a difference. Again featuring the colour of the season with rich berry tones, but with a twist of white. To create this look, paint the whole nail first with #1 French White and follow with #24 Port Wine, painting downwards to leave a white triangle at the nail tip.

New York Fashion Week- Top 4 Nail Looks

As New York Fashion Week comes to a close and the collections head to Europe, Bio Sculpture have chosen four of our favourite trends from the shows. Fashion Week has been a flurry of gorgeous gowns, elaborate coats, rich textured layering and plenty of snow!

But once again, nails were the hottest property on the catwalk.

Kate Spade was a stand-out this year with rich pink elongated talons, featuring a gold square stud just above the cuticle. To recreate this look, use Bright Summer Pink #89. Get creative with the detailing, experiment with all different stud designs and colours.

Tracy Reese went for something a little different, working with rich turquoise and gold. This colour combination is fantastic for winter to bring a little colourful contrast to the bleak weather. To recreate this look, paint the whole nail in two coats of Gold Shimmer #2014 and then create a framed effect by painting over the top with Turquoise Tea Cup #120.

Perfect for winter, khaki and olive shades are incredibly versatile. At Prabal Gurung it was accented by metallic silver, with a slightly different take on the reverse moon manicure- featuring pyramid points. For this look, try Okavango Delta #124 for the rich military inspired shade, topped with Golden Silver #93.

And finally, it doesn’t get much more glamorous than lingerie brand La Perla. The reverse moon manicure is hot at the moment  and we love this nude and black take on the trend. The nude nails would otherwise be a  little tame, but the sexy black touches take this nail look to the next level. Try Nude Beige #2095 and Licorice #2017.

We can’t wait to see what is coming next for London and Paris- check back here and we will keep you up to date!

HOW-TO: REVERSE MOON FRENCH MANICURE

This look is bang on trend for 2013- a combination of the reverse moon manicure and contrasting French manicure. With this flattering combination of two of the biggest colours of the year in grey and deep metallic navy, you have a nail look that is sure to turn heads.

Here is a Nail Art How-To, so you can recreate this look in the salon or at home;

Step 1: Using Bio Sculpture Gel or Nail Polish in Soaring Dove #98 apply two base coats.

Step 2: Working with Bio Sculpture Gel or Nail Polish in Cast Iron #2035, take a Bio Sculpture Striping Brush and create the reverse moon shape, working with the natural shape of the lunula of the nail.

Step 3: Using the Bio Sculpture Gel square brush (#4 or #6) or a Nail Polish brush, apply straight lines along the edge of the nail to create the French manicure line, again with Cast Iron #2035.

Step 4: Finish with Bio Sculpture Sealer Gel to embed a blue diamante to the crescent of each nail, or apply a high gloss Top Coat if trying this technique at home.

There you have it- a sleek metallic look perfect for a night out. But, the options for this look are endless- try different colour combinations and experiment with studs, jewels and glitters to create a truly unique look. Find more nail art inspiration here.
